How We Verify Every Driving Instructor on 1Stop
Your safety matters. Before any instructor appears on our platform, they must pass a rigorous, multi-step verification process. Here is exactly how it works — no shortcuts, no exceptions.
Safety Is Not Optional
When you book a driving lesson, you are placing your trust — and often the trust of a young family member — in the hands of a stranger. That is a responsibility we do not take lightly. Unlike platforms that rely on self-reported credentials or a simple checkbox, 1Stop Driving School independently verifies every instructor through a structured, five-step process before they can appear in search results or accept bookings.
Our verification framework was developed in consultation with road safety professionals and is designed to meet the highest standards of due diligence in the Australian driving instruction industry. We believe that transparency about how we screen instructors is just as important as the screening itself.
Below, you will find a detailed explanation of each step in our process — what we check, why we check it, and what happens when something does not meet our standards.

5 Steps. Zero Compromises.
Every instructor on 1Stop must pass all five steps before their profile goes live. Here is what we check and why.
Driving Instructor Licence Verification
We verify every instructor holds a current, valid Driving Instructor Licence issued by their state or territory transport authority. This is not a self-declaration — we cross-reference licence numbers directly with the relevant authority, whether that is Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) or Service NSW in New South Wales, VicRoads in Victoria, Transport and Main Roads (TMR) in Queensland, or the equivalent body in other states. Instructors must provide their licence number, expiry date, and any conditions or endorsements attached to their accreditation.
Working With Children Check (WWCC)
Because many learner drivers are under 18, we require every instructor to hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance. This nationally recognised background screening is designed to protect minors from harm. We verify the WWCC number and confirm it has not been revoked or suspended. In states where a different clearance framework applies, we ensure the equivalent check is in place. Instructors who allow their WWCC to lapse are immediately suspended from the platform until a valid clearance is provided.
Comprehensive Vehicle Insurance Confirmation
Every instructor must provide proof of comprehensive vehicle insurance that specifically covers driving instruction and the presence of a learner driver behind the wheel. Standard personal car insurance policies typically exclude commercial driving instruction, so we confirm that the policy is fit for purpose. We review the Certificate of Currency, check the policy period, and ensure there are no exclusions that would leave learners unprotected. Instructors are required to upload updated documentation whenever their policy renews.
Identity Verification via Government-Issued ID
To prevent impersonation and ensure the person listed on the platform is the same individual who holds the instructor licence, we conduct identity verification using government-issued photo identification. Acceptable documents include an Australian driver licence, passport, or state-issued proof-of-age card. We match the name and photograph against the instructor licence documentation to confirm consistency. This step protects learners from unlicensed individuals posing as accredited instructors.
Annual Re-Verification Requirement
Verification is not a one-time event. Every 12 months, each instructor on our platform must complete the entire verification process again. We send automated reminders 60 days, 30 days, and 7 days before credentials expire. If an instructor fails to re-verify before their deadline, their profile is automatically suspended and hidden from search results until all documents are current. This annual cycle ensures that lapsed licences, expired insurance, or revoked clearances are caught promptly — not months later.
What Happens If Verification Fails
Not every applicant passes our verification process, and that is by design. We would rather turn away an instructor than compromise the safety of a single learner. If any step in the verification process fails — whether it is an expired licence, an invalid Working With Children Check, or insufficient insurance coverage — the instructor is notified with a clear explanation of the issue.
In most cases, the issue can be resolved. For example, an instructor may need to renew a lapsed document or upgrade their insurance policy to include learner instruction coverage. We provide guidance on what is required and give the instructor a reasonable window to rectify the problem.
However, if the failure relates to a revoked licence, a refused Working With Children Check, or evidence of fraudulent documentation, the application is permanently rejected. We maintain an internal record of rejected applicants to prevent re-application under different details. In serious cases, we may also report the matter to the relevant state authority.
Temporary Suspension
If a document expires or a check returns inconclusive, the instructor's profile is immediately hidden from search results until the issue is resolved.
Guided Resolution
We contact the instructor directly, explain exactly what needs to be corrected, and provide a clear deadline for resubmission.
Permanent Removal
Fraudulent documents, revoked clearances, or repeated non-compliance result in permanent removal from the platform with no option to re-apply.
Ongoing Monitoring Between Verification Cycles
Annual re-verification is the foundation, but we do not simply wait 12 months and hope for the best. Our monitoring systems work year-round to catch issues early.
Student Feedback Monitoring
Every student review is analysed for safety-related concerns. Patterns such as repeated complaints about vehicle condition or unprofessional conduct trigger an immediate review.
Expiry Alerts
Our system tracks expiry dates for every licence, clearance, and insurance policy. Automated alerts are sent at 60, 30, and 7 days before any document lapses.
Incident Reporting
Learners and their families can report concerns at any time. Reports are triaged within 24 hours and may lead to temporary suspension pending investigation.
Authority Cross-Checks
Our framework includes cross-referencing instructor details with state transport authority databases to check that no licence has been revoked or conditions changed since the last verification.
